BAKERSFIELD - Yucca Valley High School 275-pound wrestler Troy Carter survived the East Bakersfield Tournament Friday and Saturday, returning undefeated and champion of his weight class.
He is now, just the the movie "Last of the Mohicans," the last undefeated wrestler among Yucca Valley's "Men in Black," the Trojan wrestling team.
During the rugged test here Carter opened with a bye, then pinned Castruitta of Arvin in 1:17.
Next came a pin of Braten of Stockdale in 4:45, then he defeated Gutierrez of Brawley by a 3-1 decision.
In his final tournament match, Carter decision Pino of Hollister, 4-2, to finish the tournament 4-0 with two pins and a weight division championship.
Another Yucca Valley highlight came at 135 pounds where Aaron Fregeolle brought home a third place medal.
Fregeolle drew a first round bye, then defeated Jaques of Ceres with a pin in 1:57. Next came a 10-4 win by decision over Aguilar of Tulare.
In his third match of the tournament, Fregeolle ran into Bretheran Christian's Cadwalader and lost a 5-12 decision.
Fregeolle came right back to pin Ortiz of Dos Palos in 1:05, then wrapped up his division with a 6-3 victory over Aguilar of Tulare to finish in third place with 4-1 record that included two pins.
Wrestling at 152 pounds, Steve Perry won a fifth place medal. Perry finished with a 4-2 record that included three pins, the quickest coming in 55 seconds of his second match.
Ben Truncale, wrestling at 171 pounds, won a sixth place medal with a 5-2 record that included four pins, the quickest coming in 43 seconds of his first match.
A final Trojan medal winner was Brandon Doran, wrestling at 215 pounds, who won a seventh place medal with a 3-2 record that included three pins, the quickest coming in 1:27 of his final match of the tournament.
Others wrestling here Friday and Saturday: Raul Lopez, 112 pounds, 1-2; Roger Sallee, 130, 0-2; Chris Alday, 140, 2-2 with one pin; Ryan Cloutier, 145, 3-2 with three pins; Tom Riesgo, 1603-2 with one pin; and Robert Madole, 189, 0-2.
Next stop for the "Men in Black" is Friday and Saturday when they travel to Santa Ana for another tournament on the road.
